Peaks of Drug Abuse

Katherine Foley shares data from an investigation of recreational drug residue in public sewer systems in two Kentucky towns. The results show that methamphetamine residue more than doubles during holidays, and that residue from cocaine and opioids also surges in holiday periods.

iCloud and SMS

Johnny Evans notes that Apple Messages (SMS, etc.) can be stored to the user's iCloud is a great benefit for individual users. However, the additional cloud storage location could result in security problems for corporations. It appears that messages can be erased from the phone and afterward recovered from the cloud - a security problem in a "bring your own device" work environment.

Computer Gaming and Bible Memorization

Emma Pettit reports on the University of Akron closing 80 academic programs and investing in "the largest amount of dedicated esports space of any university in the world to date."

I have not considered all of the merits of universities investing in computer gaming as a sporting event. However, I do think that Christian universities considering investing in esports should pause, and consider first establishing leagues and teams for competing in Bible memorization. Equipping students in applying Scripture is key to the mission of most Christian universities, and alumni dollars and other gifts may be available for efforts at spurring memorization.
