Rebooting Routers

Erin Kayata suggests that home routers should be rebooted occasionally .

While Kayata cites operational and security benefits, I suggest that users first record or print a list networked devices and their IP addresses as a precaution before starting the process. And do not reboot when anyone is using the network, as the reboot process disconnects the network from the Internet for at least five minutes.

Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) and Internet Domains

John Ribeiro notes that allocation of most Internet domain names will be transferred from ICANN to an affiliate called Public Technical Identifiers (PTI). As PTI aparently shall be controlled by ICANN initially, I don't foresee major changes in the way the Internet works.

When The Internet Goes Dark

English teacher Adam Schoenbart offers four teaching strategies that can be used when the Internet connectivity at a school is down. These include:

  1. having students create a presentation;
  2. have a discussion or debate;
  3. have students free write to a broad prompt; and,
  4. have students synthesize their learning.
