Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) and Internet Domains

John Ribeiro notes that allocation of most Internet domain names will be transferred from ICANN to an affiliate called Public Technical Identifiers (PTI). As PTI aparently shall be controlled by ICANN initially, I don't foresee major changes in the way the Internet works.
