Defining Transliteracy
Defining Transliteracy" is Bobbi Newman's description of an initiative to study communication techniques in an age of print and electronic resources. She shares a working definition developed by Sue Thomas and others:
Just from reading this definition, it appears that this new discipline is a broadening of existing communication studies to include new media. I hope that this new discipline does not suck academic resources from efforts to ensure beginning college students know how to write basic academic and commerical correspondence.

Transliteracy is the ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms, tools and media from signing and orality through handwriting, print, TV, radio and film, to digital social networks.
