The Measure
Jammie Wilson provides a review of a recent bestseller, The Measure .
My own take is that the "supernatural" appearance of industructible boxes bearing individual's names would have more social and individual impact than the common knowledge that an individual's lifespan is going to be shorter than others. By the time one reaches seventy, a contemplative person realizes that the remainder of their life will probably be measured in years rather than decades, and they have undergone the waning of the bodily and mental endurance they possessed in their youth which is a harbinger of death. The cases of soldiers, first responders, and inmates on death row indicates that those facing death on a regular basis can accept mortality.
The Measure does provide concepts for a thought provoking discussion, especially for those so young as to not have considered their own mortality. The book has an average review of 3.9 on Goodreads. Author interviews and book reviews follow....
